In some cases standard hermetic feedthrough cannot be used becaused of the attenuation created by the two connectors. The solution is to propose a feedthrough without fiber discontinuity. The hermeticity is obtained directly on the fiber.

Description
According to the level of hermeticity required different technlogies of sealing will be used. For hermeticity in the range of 10-2 the sealing is made directly on the fiber acrylate or Tefzel buffer. For hermeticity going from 10-2 to 10-9 the sealing is made directly on the silica of the fiber cladding or possibly on the polyimide.
Beside the usual optical parameters defining the fiber it is necessary to define precisely:
- The materials
- The mechanical design
- The level of hermeticity
- The environment
- The fiber length
- The connectors at the fiber ends
